Indians Bounce Bocaneers

June 27, 2009 (Federal League Wire Service)

A week ago, the defending Celestial Division champion Boca Raton Bocaneers held the division lead. Seven days later, following their latest loss, a 6-1 defeat at the hands of the Coconut Creek Indians, the 'Neers have slid to third place. The Indians, meanwhile, have opened their largest lead of the campaign.
Mike Draper notched his sixth victory without a defeat after completing an eight hitter. Draper walked one and struck out six.
Doc Guida went the distance for the Corsairs and took the loss after being charged with five earned runs on 14 hits. Guida walked one and did not record a strikeout.
Alex Cuadra's two run double and Frank Paliughi's RBI single highlighted the Tribe's four run second inning. Draper and Jason Legunn led the Indians with three hits each.
The Bocaneers' lone run occurred in the sixth when Jimmy Dingus doubled and scored two batters later on a single by Mike Workinger. Joe Tomasi and Scott Arenberg paced the 'Neers with two hits each.
The loss was the Bocaneers' second straight. The win reduced the Indians' magic number for clinching the division crown to four.
