Division Eyeing Fall Return March
18, 2010 (Federal League Wire Service)
The Celestial Division decided not to hold a Fall/Winter season
after the 2009 Spring/Summer campaign and that prompted some
rumors that the loop was folding. Those rumors are unfounded,
according to a league source, and, after a reorganization, the
league will begin a new season in 2011 0r 2012. Send mail to webmaster@federalleague.com

Ironically, it is being widely reported that Skip Sisselman,
manager of the Southern Yanks, was responsible for starting and
spreading the rumor. Sisselman, and the Yanks, left the league
after the 2009 season under curious circumstances.
After trying unsuccessfully for two seasons to persuade the
league to alter its draft rules, Sisselman acquiesced and agreed
to abide by the league rules, particularly after a vote of the
other clubs failed to come out in his favor. Sisselman issued a
statement that he planned to abide by the league rulings,
especially in view of the desires of the other clubs to retain
the present draft rules.
It should be noted that when the Yanks first joined the league,
the club was given a two season exemption on the restrictive
draft policy. The exemption allowed the team to enter the league
as one of the stronger clubs.
All seemed well heading into the proposed 2009-2010 Fall/Winter
season, but at a league meeting, Sisselman informed league
officials that he intended to withdraw from the circuit if the
draft rules were not amended in his favor.
Faced with such an ultimatum, league officials expelled the
Yanks from the loop.
Suddenly short of teams by one, league officials decided to
scrap the Fall/Winter campaign and focus on the 2011 season.
"Several clubs were struggling financially," one
league observer noted. "It just made sense to reorganize
fiscally at that point."
During the long off-season, league representatives contacted
several teams regarding the possibility of joining the division.
Although no announcements have been made, one of three already
existing teams is being considered to round out the division.
