Grading The Draft, Team By Team

October 1, 2016 (Federal League Wire Service)

                The pre-season draft meetings ended late one night as team representatives filed out of the meeting room at the Federal League Conference Annex. 36 players were drafted and all are hoping to make an impact when play opens on October. 
                The Hallandale Twins led the way with eight picks. The Delray Beach Mudcats, who traded several draft picks for veteran players, only made you selection.

Original Division
Hallandale Twins: Joe Adair, LHP; Louis Pagan, 2B/OF; Luis Vides, 2B/SS; Ryker Faircloth, RHP; Wilton Rosa, SS; Joseph Romano, OF; Maikel Vidal, 1B/3B/OF; Renzo Garcia, SS/2B
Summary: The Twins picked up a couple of quality pitchers, two promising middle infielders, and bench depth. The is a solid draft.
Grade: A-

Delray Beach Mudcats: Cristian Perez, SS
Summary: The Whiskered Fish sent most of their picks to other teams in pre-season trades. They addressed a need by drafting Perez, but have not been able to sign him yet.
Grade: D-


Sunrise Sunsets: Gladier Proman, RHP/3B; Tremaine Wright, RHP/OF; Jilber Rosario, SS; Romulo Matamoros, 3B
Summary: Proman has elite power, but was unsigned as opening day approaches.
Grade: C


Broward Cubs: De Jota Cruz, RHP/OF; Derec Stanislav, RHP/3B/OF; Carlos Reyes, OF; Enzo Nelson, 1B; Johnny Rivera, OF
Summary: Cruz and Stanislav are top prospects, but Cruz will not play this season.
Grade: B-

Expansion Division
Davie Goliaths: Gabriel De La Rosa, OF; Nick Flesner, 1B/3B; Erick Rios, 2B; Matthew Canady, LHP/OF; David Lopez, RHP
Summary: This may have been a strong class, but the Philistines were only able to come to terms with a player, while promising, does not fill their needs.
Grade: C


Margate Sentries:
Andres Acosta,1B/3B; Girsan Negron, SS; Joe Feller, RHP/3B; 
Summary: Acosta and Feller will help, but it is hard to imagine that either will propel the Gatekeepers to a division title. 
Grade: B-


Tri-Cities Tritons:
Ryan Schoonover, RHP; Francisnel Batista, 2B/OF; Matthew Doron, RHP/OF; Ronald Robledo, SS/2B
Summary: They managed to secure the services of a raw, but promising, pitcher, and not much else.
Grade: C+


Hollywood Stars: Bryan Charry, SS/2B; Zachary Swanson, C; Patrick Keane, 1B/OF; Peter Metzler, RHP/INF; Yamid Jaramillo, 2B; Alberto Payen, 1B/OF
Summary: This was a draft about depth more than anything else. Charry could be a an all-star candidate, if he gets signed
Grade: C+
